Standard SMTP uses unencrypted means to send and receive e-mails; these emails are subject to being hijacked and important company and client information may be stolen. Our e-mail encryption system allows the delivery of encrypted emails to customers and employees using a pre-trust relationship through SSL on your server and your confidential information is at your site in your DMZ, rather than being stored by a third party provider.

How E-mail Encryption Works:

Standard SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) uses unencrypted means to send and receive e-mails; it is difficult to send encrypted e-mails using this protocol without the necessary encryption software (for example PGP) already loaded on your server. To circumvent this problem, our system sends and receives encrypted emails using a web interface over SSL (Secure Socket Layer - port 443).

When an employee wishes to send an e-mail, they are prompted to connect to the website via SSL (https). After the user logs in, a standard "web mail" interface is presented. Upon completing an e-mail, and when it is ready to be sent, the user is prompted for a "pass-phrase". This is a trusted pass-phrase only the user will know; which establishes the trusted relationship.

When the e-mail is "sent", the e-mail is encrypted locally on the server with the pass-phrase. The actual content of the e-mail never leaves the secure e-mail system. A notice is sent to the target e-mail address informing it that it has "Received an encrypted e-mail" with a link the receiver needs to access in order to receive the message. The link will contain a unique ID of the message which will not directly pull up the e-mail until the remote user supplies the correct pass-phrase. When the pass-phrase is entered correctly, the e-mail is displayed with options to reply/delete/etc via a standard web mail interface. If the user replies, the system works in the reverse direction to the sender.

Because the e-mail encryption software is developed in-house, it is fully customizable to fit your needs. It acts in much the same way as a normal web mail interface, and features can be added or removed depending on your needs and preferences.
